Un océano de paz en el Sistema Ibérico

Fuente El Collarte and peak valdemadera

Slope: Sierra de Algairén

Distance: 5-6 Km.

Time 3-4 h.

This route can be done by car or on foot. First you must follow the same itinerary as for Fountain El Ribazo by walking fro 2 Km. on a side of the main road towards Codos. Once past the fountain take the detour on the left and cross the river (often with little or no water) to the ravine opposite.

Then follow that wide track in parallel with the ravine, avoiding the side paths which lead to private fields.

After about 1 km, turn right. There’s the possibility to see old mines nearby if you turn left but they're abandoned and rather dangerous. Once on the hilltop turn left.

Once inside the pine woods,  turn right in the following diversion (see below). Then you only have to follow the trail to get to the fountain

Once in the fountain, you can rest, drink water and picnic. If you’ve driven so far, it’s time to park.

Around the fountain you can see interesting plants such as juniperus (male and female), rock carnations, … If you got a bit up to the mountain top you’ll have a wide view of the valley beside “Valvillano”. Not far from you, there’s Peña Helada (Frozen Rock) with a colony of vultures. Female juniperus and its berries, rock carnation and hypericus.

If you feel you still can go on, you can try to go to Mount Valdemadera, the highest mount in the area at 1.270 m. high over sea level. There’s a rather hard track from El Collarte which takes you to the top. There you can have a good view of teh Grio Valley and the area known as Campo de Cariñena, with lots of vineyards.

View of barranco de Barbillano, Grío Valley and Sierra de Vicort with the village of Santa Cruz de Grío at the end

Summit of the Peak Valdemadera or "El Pelao", with several telpehone and TV repeaters on its top.

When we decide to come back to Tobed from the fountain, we can take the same route or a trail which goes along the top of the mountain towards Tobed, with barranco de Barbillano in one side and Grio Valley on the other. This trail is shorter if you're trekking.
